Just heartthrobs being heartthrobs

The teen heartthrobs the Jonas Brothers play comic-book versions of themselves in “Jonas” (7 p.m. today, Disney). The plot is not a terrible stretch for the boys, as they portray three brothers who happen to be popular rock musicians who just happen to attend a prep school not far from home.

The lovable nonthreatening lads have the support of their New Jersey parents and the adoration of several prep-school students, including Stella (Chelsea Staub), a fashion-obsessed helpmate, and Macy (Nicole Anderson), a fan who takes her devotion just a tad too far.

While fans of the popular brothers may rejoice at this review-proof trifle, I’m not sure this series is a step in the right direction. Following a pattern as old as Ricky Nelson, The Monkees — heck, even the Archies — Miley Cyrus became a singing sensation only after playing one (“Hannah Montana”) on television. The Jonas Brothers appear to be moving in the opposite direction — from the charts to the sitcom stage, which may portend greater acclaim or mere overexposure.

• After fizzling on Thursday nights, “Harper’s Island” (8 p.m. today, CBS) moves to the loneliest night of the week. I had higher hopes for this campy slaughterfest, but it seems that this hybrid of the reality format and prime-time soaps appealed to neither audience.

• If the premiere of “Jonas” doesn’t fill your quota for teen hijinx, high school madness and boy-band shenanigans, then “Taking 5” (6 p.m. Sunday, ABC Family) is for you. Alona Tal (“Veronica Mars”) and Daniella Monet (“Nancy Drew”) portray outcast girls who hope to enhance their status by kidnapping the members of a boy band called “The Click 5.”

Leave it to “The Simpsons” (7 p.m. Sunday, Fox) to parody the whole genre in an episode titled “Waverly Hills 9-0-2-1-D’Oh.”

Convinced that Springfield schools aren’t serving Bart’s and Lisa’s needs, Marge transfers them to a snooty prep school. Bart’s bad-boy image makes the transfer rather easily, but Lisa becomes an outcast. Big brother helps smooth her way by convincing her classmates that Lisa is friends with popular rock star Alaska Nebraska (Ellen Page, “Juno”).
