Frankly, I never read this rag to get any real news-surely not timely news; rather, I read this 'newspaper' to see if they have any more details about community stories that I read about in Topeka's paper or KCStar. Or, I look to see how long it takes for the "journalists" here to report what everyone else in surrounding communities reported 12 hours earlier.

As a citizen of Lawrence I decided a couple of years ago that I would no longer support The World Company with my money. We canceled cable/phone/internet and I refuse to buy the paper. Sports get front page news while any real stories of significance get coverage in papers like KCStar and TCJ (not my fave by any stretch).

I have never left a comment before but I had to this time. I am incredibly disappointed by the lack of accurate reporting on crime. What's it going to take? Your sales are dismal! This is why! (among other reasons) However, I was motivated to speak out by lawthing's post of the actual crime that happened last night. Thank you for posting the crime that LJWorld refuses to acknowledge happens in this town. Rapes, home invasions, muggings, DWIs, OUIs, Assaults, the list goes on... but you would never know it because no one here is reporting it. If you want timely news-read Topeka and KC's papers--I am in no way purporting them to be the best-but better by far at reporting what really is happening here.

World Company: you will not get any of my money until you stop censoring Lawrence news and start practicing responsible journalism.

My hometown paper prints incidents and block/street where the incident took place. Over time, even someone who has never lived there (but maybe is planning to move there) can get a pretty good feel for the city--where break-ins or other crimes are concentrated.

I've always wondered why the LJW only prints a tiny smattering of police/fire/traffic reports. Raise your hand if you've ever seen what looks like a pretty nasty accident but never found a thing about it in the paper later.

If it were a matter of not having space in the paper, I could maybe see that, but there's almost always some (often mindless) filler from the wire that could be chucked to make room for more complete police reports. And there's always room online.

Oh there was more than that, just go read the arrest sheets on the DGSO website. It gets pretty interesting to see who's done what.
