A 52-year-old Overbrook woman was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital after a single-car rollover accident early Saturday morning.

The passenger of the car, a 40-year-old man from Overbrook, refused medical assistance at the scene, near the intersection of Sixth Street and Wakarusa Drive.

The woman who was driving the car was treated and released from LMH.

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical personnel extracted the driver from the car, which was resting on its left side, about 30 minutes after the crash was reported.

The car was headed westbound on Sixth Street when the driver attempted to turn south onto Wakarusa Drive.

The car hit a utility pole on the west side of Wakarusa Drive and overturned. Lawrence police responded to emergency dispatch at 12:20 a.m.

Lawrence police were still investigating whether wet roads might have played a role in the accident.

If she were heading west on 6th and turning south on Wak to hit a pole west of Wak, how did she end up facing north on the east side of Wak? This must have been a pretty crazy accident.

Must have been a coin flip to see who was to drunk to drive.

alm 77: i was coming home from 'grandbaby duty' about 1 a.m., and saw this vehicle and the emergency personnel. They were blocking my turn southbound onto Wakarusa. The vehicle did not land facing N on the E side of Wakarusa, it was facing S on the W side of Wak.

Ahh. I see it now. That gas station is on the East side, but Wakarusa is between the car and the gas station. The first time I saw it I thought the car was closer to the gas station (in their grass), but I can see it now that you said that.
