University Bridge Club announces results of its March 21 meeting. Hosts were Dan and Carolyn Harden.

Blue winners were Ray Ikenberry, first; Darlene Schneider, second; Hazel Stellmacher, third; Marc Kuepker, fourth; and Harold Riehm, fifth.

Pink winners were Donna Riehm, first; Jane Golden, second; Virginia Williams, third; Cathy Waller, fourth; and Florence McNicoll, fifth.


Knights of Columbus Council 1372 donated 3,306 boxtops for education to St. John Catholic School. The school will receive $330.60 from General Mills.

The Monday Evening Duplicate Bridge Club‘s game on March 23 was directed by Virginia Seaver. North-South winners were Clyde Romer and Steven Phelps, first in A and B; Donna Johnson and James Masilamani, second in A; Harry Shaffer and Jambo Zhang, third in A; Mary Fenlon and Janice Hollowell, fourth in A; and Albert Ballard and Earle Core tied for second in B, and first in C, with Vince Nordberg and Jim Stewart.

East-West winners were David Piro and Brian Barrett, first in A; Craig Huneke and Lois Clark, second in A, and first in B and C; Virginia Seaver and Steve Vossler, third in A; John Fittell and Adelaide Nyquist, fourth in A, and second in B and C; and Bobby Patton and Eleanor Patton, third in B and C.

The Friday Afternoon Duplicate Bridge Club‘s game on March 20 utilized the Howell movement and was directed by Virginia Seaver. Winners were Steve Vossler and Wanda Durbin, first in A; Harry Shaffer and Lynn Hui, second in A and first in B; Bebe Huxtable and Janice Hollowell, third in A, second in B, and first in C; and Jim Stewart and Vince Nordberg, fourth in A.

The Wednesday Afternoon Duplicate Bridge Club‘s game on March 18 was directed by Chris Lane. North-South winners were Harry Shaffer and Catherine Blumenfeld, first in A and B; Chris Lane and Mona Bell, second in A and B; Amit Chakrabarti and Elizabeth Jankord, third in A; and Margrete Hartman and Florine Creek, first in C.

The East-West winners were Gary Joyce and Mark Osborn, first in A and B; Shari Krentzel and Eldon Herd, second in A and B; Paul Heitzman and David Piro, third in A; and Nita Scales and Carol Ball, first in C.


The Betty Washington Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met March 21 at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor. The president general’s message was read, and reports were given. Jerrye Van Leer from Spencer Museum of Art gave a presentation about quilts. Members also showed quilts either made by themselves or that had been passed down by their family. The next meeting will be at 10 a.m. April 18 at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor. Dr. Burney Mendenhall will speak about Scottish Tartans.
