Topeka ? Kansas legislators approve a bill designed to attract companies that manufacture equipment for solar and wind energy production to the state.

The measure allows the state to issue up to $5 million in bonds to help such firms.

The House approved it Tuesday on a 125-0 vote, sending it to Gov. Kathleen Sebelius. The Senate had approved the measure earlier this month.

Sebelius has pushed the proposal as way to make Kansas a center of research and development of renewable energy technology.

Companies would be eligible for the state’s help if they expected to invest at least $30 million in the state and have at least 200 full-time workers within five years. Also, a company would have to pay an average salary of $32,500 to its Kansas employees.
