Delays expected Wednesday on highways in Topeka

Lawrence commuters traveling to and from Topeka on Wednesday could face delays.

These road projects are planned in the Topeka area:

• At 9 a.m., the Kansas Department of Transportation will close the ramp from westbound U.S. Highway 40 to the Kansas Turnpike exit for pavement repair.

• Later in the morning, or early in the afternoon, the ramp from westbound U.S. Highway 40 to eastbound Kansas Highway 4, also known as the Oakland Expressway, will be closed for pavement repairs.

Marked detours will direct drivers to take the Rice Road exit of Interstate 70, turnaround at Rice Road and then head back east on U.S. Highway 40/Interstate 70 to the desired ramp. The work, which will present minor delays, is scheduled to be complete by 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. KDOT advises drivers to use alternate routes.

• Eastbound Interstate 70 will be reduced to one lane, from Adams Street to the east Kansas Turnpike Authority interchange, so crews can sweep the barrier wall. The left lane will be intermittently closed between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., causing minor delays.

• Crews will close the eastbound Interstate 70 ramp to the First Street/Topeka Boulevard exit ramp for pavement repair. This closure is scheduled to take place between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
