Wichita prep picks…Vols

Knoxville, Tenn. — Top high school recruit Bryce Brown signed a letter of intent with Tennessee on Monday, ending weeks of speculation after he let a scholarship offer from Miami expire.

The Wichita native is the third high-profile recruit signed by coach Lane Kiffin after the Feb. 4 national signing day, further raising the profile of his first Volunteers recruiting class.

“I thought Tennessee was better on a long-term level,” Brown said at a news conference at the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame in Wichita. “They have a lot of former NFL coaches on their staff, and I thought they were the best school to prepare me for the next level.”

The 6-foot, 215-pound Wichita East High School tailback said he also considered Oregon, Kansas State and LSU after what he called “a roller coaster ride.”

FSU to appeal forfeits

Tallahassee, Fla. — Florida State University will appeal the part of an NCAA sanction that would take away wins in 10 sports, including as many as 14 in football.
