Around and about

Bob and Romaine Taylor were named recipients of the Mary Dalton Murphy Volunteer Award during the Friends of the Lawrence Public Library annual meeting on March 6. The award named for Mary Dalton Murphy, the late head of Reference at the Lawrence Public Library, who was herself a volunteer with the Friends organization, is given annually to Friends volunteers who have given their support throughout the years in many different ways.

The Taylors have been involved with FLPL for nearly 15 years and have priced various categories, assisted with the sales and served on the Friends board. Bob, a former teacher, retired as assistant superintendent for Lawrence Public Schools several years ago. Romaine, also a former teacher, recently retired from Ottawa University.

During the meeting, the Friends recognized a retiring board member, Thelma Helyar. Two new board members were elected this year, Edie Taylor and Alan Sanders.
