Foot chase leads to arrest of ‘person of interest’ in robbery

A short foot chase Wednesday morning by a Lawrence police officer resulted in the arrest of a “person of interest” in a robbery incident.

A 52-year-old transient man was taken to the Douglas County Jail on charges of aggravated robbery, intimidation of a victim, aggravated assault on a police officer and obstruction of justice, according to jail records.

The robbery occurred about 10 p.m. Tuesday in the 1000 block of Kentucky Street. A 53-year-old man told police that he was chased and struck by a man he knew. The suspect also took money from him, the victim reported.

Police saw the suspect Wednesday morning in the 200 block of West 10th Street. An officer attempted to talk with the man, who then ran. He was caught in the 300 block of West 10th and booked into jail at 9:16 a.m. Wednesday.
