Local legislators said they were optimistic about the prospects for generous funding for Kansas University in the current session in Topeka.

Lone Star Lake, Douglas County’s half-million-dollar baby, looked ready to walk on its own after recent renovation efforts that added greatly to the allure of the facility 14 miles southwest of here.

Local farmers said that for the first time in some years they saw good prospects for “decent profits” during 1984.

Ottawan Gary Hart said he was confident of good progress in the Maine Democratic caucuses. His main opposition for the party presidential nomination at the time was Walter Mondale. Hart had a background in the U.S. Senate.
