Davies shines in Royals’ victory

? Kansas City Royals right-hander Kyle Davies wants to prove his strong September last season was not a fluke.

After going 4-1 with a 2.27 ERA in five starts last September, Davies on Monday threw three scoreless innings, allowing one hit, in the Royals’ 14-5 victory over the San Francisco Giants.

“I came down here saying to myself, ‘Listen, you did well in September, but that’s one month,'” Davies said. “This year is a long year. If you want to help the club, it’s not having one good month, it’s having a good six or seven months. I’m trying to prepare myself for that.”

Giants manager Bruce Bochy missed the game to undergo arthroscopic right-shoulder surgery in San Francisco to repair tears in his labrum and biceps.
