KU plans test of emergency alert system

Kansas University will be testing its emergency alert systems at 12:30 p.m. today.

The system involves sending cell phone text messages alerting recipients to emergency situations and campus closures, e-mail alerts to reach 33,000 KU accounts and a public address system allowing emergency dispatchers to provide voice instructions to certain buildings.

The public address system covers most classroom and gathering spaces on campus.

Students, faculty and staff may sign up for emergency text message alerts at www.alert.ku.edu, however those who sign up today will not receive today’s message.
