Wednesday’s Raiders doubleheader called off

Make it four straight Tuesdays of cancellations for the Lawrence Raiders. Only, this time, Mother Nature had nothing to do with it.

For the fourth time in the past four weeks, the Raiders had a Tuesday home game called off, this time because the visiting Mauer’s Athletics opted out of the scheduled doubleheader because they could not field a full roster. Raiders coach Wilson Kilmer said the Athletics’ coach informed him of his predicament via email at 1:27 p.m. Tuesday. First pitch was scheduled for 6 p.m.

The previous three cancellations were because of rain.

The Raiders (5-9) will return to the diamond at 6 p.m. Wednesday when they play host to the Topeka Stars at Ice Field.

Thursday, the Raiders will open play in the four-day Al Ice Woodbat Classic when they take on Willard, Mo., at 7:30 p.m. at Kansas University’s Hoglund Ballpark.
