State Sens. Marci Francisco, D-Lawrence, and Tom Holland, D-Baldwin City, were recognized for not missing any votes for the 2009 legislative session.

“In a citizen Legislature such as ours in Kansas, legislators have families, jobs and other obligations in addition to their legislative work. Sen. Francisco’s perfect voting record attests to the tireless effort she has made to represent her community effectively,” said Senate Democratic Leader Anthony Hensley of Topeka.

In her five years in the Legislature, Francisco has never missed a day, Hensley said.

Hensley also praised Holland, saying, “In his first term, Sen. Holland has provided a strong, consistent voice for the people of Douglas, Jefferson and Leavenworth counties. I am confident he will be a leader in the Senate for years to come.”

A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that Holland also did not miss any legislative day's this year. He missed two, but on those days no votes were held.

Yay. Congratulations for DOING YOUR JOB.

Why isn't perfect attendance for votes the norm and not the exception? Yes, people have other obligations and there are many votes throughout the year, but a senator's constituents are not being represented if the senator is not there to cast a vote. Even if the issue does not seem like it directly affects a senator's constituents, it could very well have an impact on the budget (at least) in the future.

Yeah my senator (Fransico) is doing what I voted her to do! Thank you for showing up and casting even the most minute of votes!

Thank you Senators Holland and Francisco. We appreciate your dedication to the task that the voters asked you to do.
