Another repaving bid comes in below estimate

It’s another road construction bid lower than the estimated cost.

Douglas County Commissioners Monday morning approved a $322,308 low bid from LRM Industries to repave Douglas County Road 1057 for a half-mile from Kansas Highway 10 north to Douglas County Road 442. County Road 442 is old K-10 Highway.

An engineer’s estimate on the project was $386,605, and two other bids submitted were also below the estimate.

Earlier this year, bids for County Road 438, known as the Farmers’ Turnpike, also came in under budget. The 1057 Road project is expected to start July 6 and work is expected to last one month.

Commissioners on Monday also unanimously agreed to apply for a federal community development block grant on behalf of Health Care Access. The clinic, which serves uninsured Douglas County residents, plans to move to a larger building near Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
