Senate passes ‘cash for clunkers’ program

June 19, 2009

— Congress approved a “cash for clunkers” program Thursday to provide government incentives of $3,500 to $4,500 to motorists who trade in their gas guzzlers for more fuel efficient vehicles after Senate Democrats narrowly defeated a Republican effort to kill the plan.

Auto state senators said the program would help hard-pressed car dealers and automakers by bringing buyers into showrooms, and they got help from President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden, who made calls to wavering Democrats urging them to keep the plan alive.

“This is an emergency for families and small businesses — for an industry that has been the backbone of our economy for a generation,” said Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., who sponsored the proposal.

Opponents said it would increase the federal debt without doing much to get expensive-to-operate vehicles off the roads.

So first the yuppies buy their SUVs which destroy the environment and create a huge demand for foreign oil which causes middle east wars and problems. But now we are going to give them cash off their new car as a bonus. This is not Cash for Clunkers, this is Cash for A$$H0L#$. I drive a broken down Toyota. No free money for the responsible.

I'm predicting that by 2015, purchasing any new vehicle which does not meet the average CAFE standard will require you to write a check to the government. Therefore, half of all new vehicles will have a brand new and burdensome tax added to their price. This is the "carbon tax" we've been threatened with lately.

By 2020 all new vehicles - even your 2020 Prius - will have a carbon tax added to the purchase price. You'll see this tax printed on the invoice.

By 2025, you'll have to pay an annual fee just to keep the "gas guzzler" you purchased in 2020.

And by 2030, any used vehicle that does not meet the arbitrary emissions standards of the environmentalist fringe will be made illegal. That is, you won't be able to drive (or even own) vehicles that are on the road today.
