Ex-Jayhawk Higgins to run marathon for U.S.

Former Kansas University track & field standout Paige Higgins has been selected as one of five women to represent the United States in the marathon at the World Championships in August in Berlin. Higgins will be joined on the team by Tera Moody, Desiree Davila, Zoila Gomez and Kara Goucher.

Higgins finished eighth at the Chicago Marathon last October in a time of 2 hours, 33 minutes, 6 seconds. The Littleton, Colo., native was the 2008 USA 25K champion with a time of 1:30:49. At the 2007 Chicago Marathon, Higgins was the second American woman and seventh overall finisher with a time of 2:40:12. She won the Gary Bjorklund Half-Marathon in Duluth in 2007 (1:14:45) and the Bolder Boulder 10K citizen’s race (34:49). Higgins was the 2006 Walt Disney World Marathon champion with a time of 2:51:38.
