In case there was any doubt, Kansas Republican Party leaders are backing U.S. Sen. Sam Brownback for governor.
On Thursday, the Brownback campaign issued a news release saying former U.S. Sen. Bob Dole and current U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts would serve as national co-chairmen for Brownback’s run for governor.
Brownback’s campaign also announced that U.S. Reps. Jerry Moran, Todd Tiahrt, Lynn Jenkins and former state senator Nick Jordan, all Republicans, would serve as his congressional district co-chairs.
On Monday, Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh announced he was dropping out of contention for the Republican Party nomination, leaving Brownback as the only candidate, so far, in the 2010 race.

Will there be a Democrat to vote for? Or will they have to find another moderate republican to switch parties? I'll vote for anybody who's running against Brownback, even if it's crazy ol' Fred Phelps.

Perhaps Ahmadinejad or Muhammed Saeed al-Sahaf are available. I think Dems might vote Brownback over Ahmadi, but MSS might be a wonderful distraction Can you imagine the TV showdown between MSS and Neufeld?

What ever happend to Cindy Thomas? She was the first woman to run for student body president at Kansas State University. She lost to Sam Brownback in a runoff election in 1976?
Cause I would vote for her.

Good news. Brownback can bring people together and move the state forward.
That's further evidenced by this announcement and the fact that he has received more votes in an election than any other candidate for any office in state history---despite the unrepresentative protestations regularly found here.
You could look it up.

Kansas GOP is backing the wingnut. Brownback is a yellow back. He opposes using the federal prison for terrorists. He is afraid of standing up to fight terrorism, I would be proud if Kansas stood up and said, we will use law. He thinks we should cower and keep the boogies in special camps. Not to use law because we are scared is really to give in to terrorists. He would prefer we use a camp in Cuba, with no trials, no over sight, no law. I am so ashamed that Bush/Brownback thinks that camps are the way to go. I have relatives that saw the camps in WW II, They aren't the way to go.

Why does one need national co-chairmen to run for the state office of governor? How many votes from Missouri does he need to win? This isn't 1856, and he isn't Sheriff Sam Jones.
Newell_Post (anonymous) says…
I don't know why, but every time I see Brownnote talk on TV, and I see the look in his eyes, I am reminded of the old line from "Jaws":
"Sometimes that shark he looks right into ya. Right into your eyes. And, you know, the thing about a shark... he's got lifeless eyes. Black eyes. Like a doll's eyes. When he comes at ya, doesn't seem to be living... until he bites ya, and those black eyes roll over white and then... ah then you hear that terrible high-pitched screamin'......Little shakin', little tenderizin', an' down you go."

Allow me to re-phrase my previous comment...
Why does one need two national co-chairmen to run for the state office of governor? How much out-of-state money does he need to raise from unhinged theo-fascists like himself to buy the election?
kmat (anonymous) says…
Of course they're backing Brownback. It's because they are just sheeple. KS Republicans don't care about what's best for the state. They only care about advancing their religious agenda.

Of course the GOP leaders in Ks. are supporting Brownback. They have successfully purge the party of moderates and traditionals into bulemic party proportions with sole support from the Ridiculous Religious Rite. And Brownback is a part of that Big Bully Party. Just think. We could have a governor in Kansas of the Big Hate Party, who loves killing as much as the average murderer.

Yes, Ms. Mania, your own posts continually reflect your boundless compassion, acceptance, and empathy. You're such a sweetheart, not a hater at all.

Brownback, The man who voted against:
An expansion of the State Children's Health Insurance Program.
Brownback, The man who voted against:
Setting benchmarks and a timetable for the withdrawal of troops from Iraq
If he gets elected this state is doomed. I might consider commuting from Missouri.
That said, I predict Kansas is finally going to be a "blue" state after the next elections. The political blackmail using state employees paychecks will come back to haunt the republicans.

I think the "R's" could find someone better. They could find worse too, but I still think there is a better candidate out there.
Machiavelli_mania (anonymous) says…
notajayhawk, I hardly think you uphold those standards yourself, particularly is you are a member of the Hate Party known as the Religious Rite.
The Religious Rite has murdered one of my very favorite Dr's of all times. Do you think I should not have any resentment towards the hate crimes, the thought crimes, the perpetuation of institutionalized hate of the Ridiculous Religious Rite? The Ridiculous Religious Rite doesn't care one iota for life. They are all about perpetuating dark thoughts, dark actions, dark words, ... and the massive manipulation and control-mongering of people who are dense enough, literally stupid enought to listen to their dark, hateful talk.
nomansland (anonymous) says…
Thank god I left Kansas. The state will just keep getting backwards.
Machiavelli_mania (anonymous) says…
The Ridiculous Religious Rite chased me out because I stood up and seriously challenged the Religious Rite. Obviously they don't like the intelligent, the thoughtful, and the bold, and people who are willing to take a stand against them. They could not manipulate me, so they bullied, which is their tactic for controlling those who oppose them . They insulted. They lied. But most of all, they did N O T! use any of the Christ-like qualities they have long forgotten to practice. They didn't like it when i called them on this tactic and their lack of Christ-like qualities.
Brownback is N O T a good man. Of course, he is the least worst Senator we have.
And I am positive that, even within the GOP, there are large numbers of people unwilling to vote for a practicing Catholic and to relinquish control of this state to the historic Nazi leading the Vatican and it's church.
Machiavelli_mania (anonymous) says…
Yet Kansas continues to vote more blue in every single election.
Yet the Kansas GOP is without money.
Yet the Religious Rite is < 30% of the population this state.

Wow, I haven't even worked up a sweat.
Machiavelli_mania (anonymous) says…
beo, I think the Ridiculous Religious Rite is most certainly on the decline. Their children rebell and leave the affiliation. They are addicted to internet porn, leading the Bible belt to display the highest divorce rates in the country. The outlandish denial of homosexuality creates a environment of cognitive dissonance while the Ridiculous Religious Rite Leaders fond al (misspell intentional) people of the same sex backstage, showing that what they publically repress, then think and talk about all the time, will rear it's naturally human head and bite you in the bass. In other words, the Ridiculous Religious Rite complaint about gay marriage is based on deep desire and unrecognized envy.

Same-sex Behavior Seen In Nearly All Animals, Review Finds)
Meanwhile, amid all the noise and Hullaball U. that the Ridiculous Religious Rite makes, their numbers are greatly diminishing, research indicates. More and more people in this country are opting out of attendance to church services, with the number one reason why they no longer attend is "politics in the pulpit".
It is nice to have a public face on your strange, ridiculous religious faction of the GOP. But really, no one is believing it anymore, even your own members.
Brownback is the Kansas face of an empty party.
notajayhawk (anonymous) says…
Machiavelli_mania;
As somone who continually spews hatred with every breath every time you're in a manic cycle, your pompous self-righteousness is pretty amusing. You've said yourself you loved the Republican party - until they forced you out. Again, wonder why.
"Obviously they don't like the intelligent, the thoughtful, and the bold, and people who are willing to take a stand against them."
What does that have to do with why *YOU* left?
"Yet Kansas continues to vote more blue in every single election."
http://www.kssos.org/ent/kssos_ent.html
Educate yourself before you make yourself look even more foolish - if that's possible. McCain got more votes in Kansas than Bush did in 2000. The only place in Kansas that voted for Obama that didn't vote for Bush (either time) was Crawford Cty, where Obama won by about 200 votes. Yep, really a big shift to the left.
BeO and the delusional Beawolf might want to get a clue, too. When are the whiners in Larrytown going to wake up to the fact that they are completely out of touch with what the rest of the state thinks?
"And I am positive that, even within the GOP, there are large numbers of people unwilling to vote for a practicing Catholic and to relinquish control of this state to the historic Nazi leading the Vatican and it's church."
Did you vote for Carey, mania (assuming you were old enough to vote)? Would you have voted for Kennedy (had you even been born that decade)?
"I hardly think you uphold those standards yourself"
Thank the lord. Because I hardly give a rat's petute what you think about what I do or don't do - and if my values don't reflect your own, then I know beyond doubt I'm heading in the right direction.

Uh huh.
From the story you linked to:
>>> "There is a caveat, however. The review also reports that same-sex behaviors are not the same across species, and that researchers may be calling qualitatively different phenomena by the same name.
>>> "For example, male fruit flies may court other males because they are lacking a gene that enables them to discriminate between the sexes,"
As for 'mounting,' mania, that's typically more a display of dominance than affection - and they don't demand the right to get married afterwards.
But I do think you make a lovely Albatross, mania - or perhaps a loon.

Asbestos, I am for:
Limited Government
Constitutional Restraint
Government Accountibility and Transparency
Strong Individual Rights
Strong Separation of State and church
Fiscal Responsiblity
and now well-enforced Term Limits in the US Congress
(IMHO: Roberts is totally croooooked!!)
This used to be a GOP list of tenets, but then the Ridiculous Rite morphed the party a total 180. I didn't move with them, and thusly moved against them.
I am the only one here who lists their ideals and holds to them, tho everyone should at least hold them in their head, despite the fads and political fashions of a political party.
BTW, partial birth abortions are never ever done! There is not one case anyone can bring up to prove that it is done. It is NOT!! in medical journals, websites that teach nor taught in medical schools. It is a bogus procedure.

"notajayhawk, while I insult a group of people directly responsible for the loss of a favorite Dr., you insult the poster."
Yes, mania, with the tinfoil wrapped that tightly, anyone who disagrees with *YOU* is "directly responsible" for Dr. Tiller's death. Just like every Muslim is "directly responsible" for 9-11, everyone in Japan was "directly responsible" for bombing Pearl Harbor, every Serbian was "directly responsible" for WWI when they collectively shot the Archduke.
Your hatred of a group that wouldn't let you belong to their club is one thing, oh aptly-named - but your paranoia that because they don't want you around they all are "directly responsible" for a murder is truly pathological. You really should get back on your meds - but I'm sure you hear that all the time.
"I am the only one here who lists their ideals and holds to them"
And a messianic complex to boot - your picture is somewhere in the DSM, isn't it?

[For those trying to follow ms_mania's delusions, the link I posted was to the Kansas Secretary of State's election results - perhaps she thinks the Dems actually won every race.]
Um, mania? If you go to kansas.gov, the state's official site, and search for secretary of state, you'll come up with something like this:
http://kansas.google.nicusa.com/searc...
Or a google search:
State of Kansas Secretary of State: Ron Thornburgh - www.kssos.org
FL 1, 120 SW 10th Ave, Topeka - (785) 296-xxxx
You might even notice - I doubt it, but maybe - that the Dept. of Revenue's site is also a .org. Um - so is the legislature's.
But if you don't believe our own secretary of state's website, perhaps these:
http://elections.nytimes.com/2008/res...
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25362111

notajayhawk (Anonymous) says… "Educate yourself before you make yourself look even more foolish - if that's possible. McCain got more votes in Kansas than Bush did in 2000."
I dislike people who twist facts to suit their purposes. You neglect to mention that McCain received LESS votes than Bush did in 2004.
For all the time you spend posting and clip and pasting URL's and citing sources, most of it is nonsense. You have no credibility. You spend more time trying to denigrate other posters than provide any solid arguments.
notajayhawk (anonymous) says…
What facts did I "twist," bea, dearie? I specifically stated I was referring to the year 2000 - the first time Bush ran. Bush was an incumbent in 2004. (Maybe you weren't aware of that.) But it would be more accurate to compare the first election for both, n'est pas?
"You have no credibility. "
Coming from the one who said Kansas will be a blue state after the next election, that's quite amusing, bea.
"You spend more time trying to denigrate other posters than provide any solid arguments."
Compared to ms_mania's hatred-spewing rants against the 'Religious Rite,' you mean? Sorry if calling attention to the weakness of her arguments - and yours - is considered denigrating.
"For all the time you spend posting and clip and pasting URL's and citing sources, most of it is nonsense."
Uh huh. They were numbers, bea, backed up by pretty little color-coded maps for those without the aptitude to understand the numbers. Your definition of "nonsense" appears to be facts that don't coincide with your (willfully) blind ideology.
Speaking of "solid arguments," bea - where're your numbers backing up your belief that Kansas is turning blue? What? You didn't post anything to back that up? That must be what you consider 'credibility' - if it agrees with your own delusions, it's credible. If it's reality that you don't want to hear, it's not.
Here's the reality, bea, and please, feel free to provide a "solid argument" to the contrary: Larrytown does not represent the views of the rest of the state. Outside of Douglas and Wyandotte counties (and the occasional blips like Crawford last year), Kansas is in no danger of turning blue in the foreseeable future.
"I dislike people who twist facts to suit their purposes."
I dislike people who ignore the facts because they don't like them. People like you, for instance.
