Downtown events
Commissioners unanimously approved a pair of downtown events.
Commissioners approved the closing of Eighth Street from Massachusetts to New Hampshire streets from 5 p.m. Aug. 1 to 1 a.m. Aug. 2 to allow for a 20th anniversary celebration of The Sandbar, 17 E. Eighth St.
The downtown bar wants to use the street for a street dance and to provide outdoor vendor space.
Commissioners also approved a live music event for the vacant lot south of the Eldridge Hotel, 701 Mass. The event will be July 3, and will be held in conjunction with the Tour of Lawrence, a professional bicycle race that will be in town from July 3-5.
