Swine flu reported in Pottawatomie County

? Swine flu has been detected for the first time in Pottawatomie County.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment announced Wednesday that the virus was confirmed in a child in the northeast Kansas county. KDHE officials didn’t say where in the county the child lives.

The case marks the 97th confirmed case of swine flu in Kansas. But the number is thought to be lower than the actual number of cases. Health officials announced last month that the state was focusing its limited lab resources on testing specimens from counties that haven’t yet reported cases of the virus.

Symptoms of swine flu are similar to those of seasonal flu. They include a fever above 100 degrees, body aches, coughing and sore throat.
