Ninth Street closure for street repairs to start Monday

Work starts Monday to revamp Ninth Street, from Iowa to Tennessee streets.

And that means some worthwhile inconvenience for Scott Zaremba, owner of the Zarco 66 Earth Friendly Fuels and Zarco 66 fuel stations southeast of Ninth and Iowa. “We are very encouraged to see the city cleaning up Ninth Street. It’s overdue,” Zaremba said. “We hope the discomfort we feel in retail when a street is closed is offset by the improvements for our community. We appreciate them repairing our street.”

Preliminary work starts Monday. On Wednesday, crews will close Ninth to through traffic from Iowa to Avalon Road. The closure is set to continue until the second week of July, so that the intersection of Ninth and Avalon can be realigned, widened and have a center turn lane added.

Crews from R.D. Johnson Excavating Co. Inc. are handling the $678,211 project, which will include some replacement of curbs and gutters and repaving all of Ninth between Iowa and Tennessee.

The entire project is scheduled to be finished by Aug. 7.
