Two teams tied at top at Alvamar

A pair of teams shot a 66 Monday, the first of two days of four-ball stroke-play qualifying in the 21st Kansas Four-Ball Championship at Alvamar.

In the open division, the low 32 teams will qualify for match play and will be seeded based on their scores (one at each course) the first two days. In the masters’ division, for golfers at least 40 years old, 12 teams are competing. The qualifying is to determine which four teams receive first-round byes.

Qualifying rounds take place at Alvamar’s public and private courses. The match-play tournaments will be played exclusively at Alvamar public.

After Monday’s play, Michael Schnegelberger and Brett Iliff shot a 66, as did Michael McDonnell and Austin Conroy.

In the masters’ division, Alvamar Inc. president Dick Stuntz and Stewart Platz shot a 68, as did John Bailey and Brent Dewitz.

Weather permitting, the second round of qualifying is set for today. In the open division, the first two rounds of match play are scheduled for Wednesday, and third-round and semifinals are scheduled for Thursday, with the finals taking place Friday. In the masters division, the semifinals and finals take place Thursday.
