Neb. shelter volunteer adopts ‘bong cat’

? The kitten that drew worldwide attention four months ago after being found stuffed in a makeshift bong has a new home.

Capital Humane Society executive director Bob Downey said Thursday that a volunteer at the Lincoln shelter adopted 8-month-old Shadow.

The cat had been at the shelter since March 1. Marissa Vieux relinquished ownership of Shadow about two weeks ago.

Vieux’s boyfriend, Acea Shomaker, has admitted to smoking marijuana from a contraption that had Shadow stuffed inside. He told authorities he was trying to calm the cat. He pleaded guilty this week to an animal cruelty charge.

Adoption inquiries came from as far away as Australia. Downey said Shadow was given to the shelter volunteer because the two had bonded so well.
