Contract with police department approved

A new labor contract for the city’s police officers was unanimously approved by commissioners.

The city agreed to a contract that provides for a 0.5 percent general wage adjustment for police officers and detectives. The increase is less than the 1.5 percent increase the police officers received for 2009.

The union-like group for the police officers association ratified the agreement on Monday. The union for the firefighters are scheduled to consider a similar agreement at a special meeting of its membership on Saturday. If approved, city commissioners are expected to sign off on the agreement at next Tuesday’s meeting.
