Royals leg out victory
Butler, Pena spark K.C. past Orioles, 5-3

Kansas City Royals first baseman Billy Butler, left, is congratulated by teammate Ryan Freel after the Royals defeated the Baltimore Orioles, 5-3. Butler went 5-for-5 in the victory Monday in Baltimore.
Baltimore ? On a night when he dominated offensively, Billy Butler relished an unlikely sight: stocky teammate Brayan Pena chugging to first base, legging out a game-turning infield hit.
Pena’s hustle allowed Butler to score the go-ahead run in the seventh inning, and the Kansas City Royals went on to beat the Baltimore Orioles, 5-3, Monday. Butler had a career-high five hits and drove in three runs.
Butler led off the seventh with a double to right-center off Matt Albers (1-4), advanced when Miguel Olivo grounded out for the second out and scored when the 5-foot-8, 247-pound Pena beat Melvin Mora’s throw on a slow chopper to the third-base side of the mound.
“(Pena) put in a good fight. It was a big at-bat. I was just happy to see him get a hit out of it,” Butler said. “We got the lead right there and never looked back.”
Five of Kansas City’s 14 hits were infield singles.
