I must agree with ayoungjhawk, however its not the owners of 821 who are throwing these parties, its a group of promoters that have thrown parties at 821, Econo Lodge and Granada. Some group called B.A.Y Boys Productions. My son, a student at KU speaks about these parties. Their parties a known for altercations. The city is wasting time going after Christopher Windler, Fred Windler, Qing Ling Wang and Xin Li Liu. Even if they close Club 821, B.A.Y Boy Productions who is primarily organized of former football player Marcus Anderson, and Lee Johnson will still host parties with uncontrollable crowds. Shut them down is the true answer.

Haji or Hajji: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haji

so, apparently the people operating the Econolodge are (one or more) of the following: an actress; the taker of shoes, sandals, and various children's buckets; a Cypriate businessman; bearers of a muslim honorific title; ... or just named Haji?

Irish: From its ad on the Net the Econolodge looks like a nice place to stay. They have in room coffee makers, free wi-fi,free newspaper and an iron and ironing board.

LOL wow, in room coffeemakers! what're they puttin' in them coffes?

and, the ironing boards make a good base to steady your shooting arm!

Yes it did used to Ramada Inn and both of those hotels Econolodge and Americas Best Value have problems Econolodge is nice but americas best value inn is a dump and its clientele and staff reflect that

Sorry if I seem antagonistic. I have friends who are associated with the Econolodge, and they are putting in a lot of effort to improve the place. Too bad it is not enough to prevent crap like this. Reports like this are a pock mark to this town, and all but a handful of its citizens who don't care about its condition. I love this town, and activities like this are the antithesis of what we as a community are trying to achieve.

Apparently LarryNative and biggunz are stuck in 2005. I believe reticent irreverent made the observation that you will find more skate punks than "last call crowd" at duffys, and it is spelled Haji's, and they sold the place years ago. Not that it is any improvement, I just think accurate details are important when making broad generalizations.

Apparently no one on this board knows of a place called Duffy's which is located behind the Econlodge. Duffy's caters to the same crowd Last Call had and 821.

HAHAHA....I made a comment about this place almost two weeks ago. The riff raff has moved to Econolodge and the hodgies there like it.

Drfingo, yes I do understand that milspec may not be the solution, but these places need to get or bump up their security, whether that be another private firm or something else. What they have obviously isnt working. I cant imagine it's good for business to have shots being fired at an establishment, so I would consider it a good investment.
and exactly, the police are distracted by these petty incidents of idiots showing off.
I dont see what's wrong with fining the bar for these incidents & requiring them to beef up security. Something needs to be done at least

No bethree, it isn't just you. Although, the permissive attitude towards drugs and alcohol by the city of Lawrence and many of its citizens is very enticing for many people outside of Lawrence, (Kansas City, Topeka, and Junction City) to come to to town because their cities are less tolerant of the businesses that cater to them.

Time for Larrytown to go DRY.

Is it just me or does this town have a larger than normal population of gang-banger wanna-be losers and stupid hippies?

No, the Econolodge is where the Ramada used to be

xbusguy Is econolodge the old Ramada Inn??

The Ramada Inn is just down the street from the Econolodge. From its ad on the Net the Econolodge looks like a nice place to stay. They have in room coffee makers, free wi-fi,free newspaper and an iron and ironing board. It doesn't like the kind of place to attract a bad crowd. But, I haven't really noticed it so maybe the ad is lying.

Any ideas? Yeah. Start squealing. It's hard to fire a gun many times in town without someone looking to see what it's about. Trouble is, the witnesses won't tell the cops who it was or what happened. If the 99% don't want to feel hasseled, they need to hold the 1% accountable.

Edgeofbaldwin obviously has never dealt with mil-spec, they solve nothing, EOB also has no idea about the required/established security at these places. And this isn't costing anyone more $$$, there are not more police on force during these parties unfortunately the events simply distract the on staff police presence from doing their normal jobs.

Good thing there are so many guns out there.

ayoungjhawk 4 years, 8 months ago

the reason you keep seeing the cops outside econo is because the so called "new management" for 821/Axis whatever you wanna call it...has parties in the econo all the time. the party that resulted in these shots fired was a party thrown by the new management of 821. they moved it about a block and a half...same result...

Why not after 2-3strikes charge these establishments for extra security, or require them to hire Mil-Specs? They're costing our taxpayers money by forcing police to keep after these incidents. Having decent security there will slow down the problems at least. Closing the bar wont solve the problem...the problem will just move to a new location.

From what I know, Econolodge is where the punk/skater crowd hangs out, a pretty quiet well behaved group. But some one did want to shake up their scene...

0

Drfingo 4 years, 8 months ago

I think that it has been proven that shutting down the locations will not stop this. Last Call was shut down, and the "people of incident" simply found a new place to flex their pride. The problem is that 99% of the attendees don't cause problems, they just want somewhere to listen to their music, and maybe grind on the dance floor. It is the 1% that causes the problems. The question is what to do with that 1%. Anyone have any ideas?

mommyoffour (Anonymous) says… "Why is it they have had several shootings, stabbings and fights just to name a few of the things that goes on there and nothing is ever done. Why has this place not been shut down?"

Neither the Xtown nor Axis/851 are within Downtown Lawrence's green zone and nothing will be done. This is especially true as long as they continue to pay their tribute of retail liquor taxes to the city in these cash strapped times.

This is ridiculous...it's something like the third morning in a row I've woken up to see a headline on the LJ-W that starts, "Police investigating shots fired...".

It seems like people are having a difficult time controlling their emotions, and it always seems to happen late at night/early in the morning. I'd be shocked if alcohol - the LEGAL drug - isn't involved in each and every one of these incidents. Alcohol and guns: what a great combination.

Maybe we need to post deputies on every road leading into Lawrence on weekends and require people to check their guns at the border. Then we'd only have us "civilized" residents of Lawrence to worry about.

Is econolodge the old Ramada Inn??

This is the second time they have found rounds but have no idea who was shooting or why. Both times no one was hurt. I'm not sure about that one shooting on Haskel. It's hard to keep up.

I agree with Eride, but I also have another one for you Crosstown aka THE DOG, THE DIRTY. Why is it they have had several shootings, stabbings and fights just to name a few of the things that goes on there and nothing is ever done. Why has this place not been shut down? Is it because KU students aren't at risk? Is it because it is on the East Side of town? Is it because the people that go there aren't worth keeping safe? Hmmmmm I am just wondering. I don't think that all the people that go there are bad, like the ones that do go for just a drink or to play some pool. Well for their safety they should probably find another bar to go to. The city should shut this bar down ASAP! We live close to this place and I see police there almost everyday. Sometimes I will take a different route if I have to go in that direction. Bullets don't always hit the intended target. If any one has any ideas why this place isn't shut down, well I would like to know. The families that live close must be terrified.

seems like someone could make good money selling ammo in larryville on fri and sat nights.

Everyone keeps complaining about the Moon Bar/Axis/821 why is not one complaining about this place. It seems every time I drive by there late at night cop cars are out front of that place.
