U.S. believes missile killed bin Laden son

July 24, 2009

— U.S. intelligence agencies believe that Osama bin Laden’s son and potential heir in the al-Qaida organization was killed earlier this year by a Predator missile strike in Pakistan.

Saad bin Laden has been portrayed as the bin Laden son who is closest to his father and most involved in the al-Qaida terrorist network’s activities. But he was never seen as an operational leader.

“There are some indications that he may be dead, but it’s not 100 percent certain,” a U.S. counterterrorism official said. “If he is dead, Saad bin Laden was a small player with a big name. He has never been a major operational figure.”

Hey, where are the "Hands off Iran" people on this one?

Jersey_Girl 8 years, 9 months ago

Well, probably where ever they were before since this story comes from Pakistan.

Yes, you see, I understand the "Hands off Iran" people believe in "Hands off Iran," I wonder how they feel about this story.

But I guess they are only interested in limiting American Wars For Oil (tm) and are perfectly fine with being world policemen.

P.S. What is the Darfur exit strategy? When will our troops be coming home from that one?

Alert E. Kent Hayes! The CIA is targeting people for assassination!

Let the trials begin!

Are you saying that Obama sanctioned the assasination of Osama bin Laden's son?

Poor little kid, he thought he was safe from Obama since he wasn't on a little boat off of the Somali coast.

Someone better alert Nancy Pelosi that we are assassinating terrorists now ..... there should be a Congressional investigation

"the bin Laden son who is closest to his father "

Unfortunately, not as close as I would have liked, at least not on the day the bomb hit its target.

Good to see the military accomplishing its goals of actually striking at the bad guys who attacked us.

Folks - the article doesn't say specifically when he was killed. Could have been on Bush's orders after Obama took residence, could have been before, could have been Obama's orders. Until we have the date, let's keep the Obama-bashing to a minimum, shall we? And before all of you right-wingnuts jump to another conclusion and think that I'm trying to imply that Bush left sneaky orders to be carried out after Obama became president, I simply meant that perhaps the orders were issued while Bush was still commander-in-chief. No timetable may have been given. For all any of us know, no direct order was given. It may have been a random missile.

phaederino - you might want to work on your timing a little more. You could use some help, comically speaking, if "Bin Laden's son attacked you?" is the best you can come up with.

I didn't bash Obama, I called for investigations. This is a targeted assassination, the kind we as a civil society have decided is a war crime. I'm calling for investigation and prosecution of those involved.

The fact that some have decided we should wait to find out whether it was Bush or Obama are repulsive. As though the President's color determines the grade of crime.

Outrageous, I say!

Furthermore, this is a war crime on Pakistan's soil, and as such a grotesque expansion of the war.

What next, Bomb Cambodia?

They are still after Bin Laden and some of his family. I wonder when they are going to take care of the rather large families over here of the Bins groups? Such as the Bin Stealing family that make up the banks and corporations, then there is the Bin Lying family that has a lot of members in Congress. There are at least two families that make up the modern Republicans and they are the Bin Cheating family and the Bin Jiven family.
