Fashion show in Eudora to display 4-H fair finery

After a day of critiques and judging, 4-H’ers will get the chance to participate in a runway fashion show beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Eudora City Park.

“We’ll have commentary and music and everything,” said Margaret Kalb, executive secretary for the Douglas County fair board.

The fashion show follows a day of judging in which a set of judges evaluates each garment or outfit.

Participants can enter one of two categories — buying or construction. Those who enter the buying category are judged on how well the garment is put together and whether it fits the occasion.

Participants in the buying category must show they are able to find a fashionable ensemble without spending loads of cash.

“We want them to be good consumers, not just go in and buy it because it’s the latest fashion trend,” Kalb said. “We want them to look it over good and make sure it’s put together well.”

Kalb said anyone was welcome to watch the judging, especially families who were interested in getting involved with 4-H, but she expected the Tuesday evening fashion show to be the highlight event.

Winners from the previous day’s judging will be announced at the fashion show, and ribbons will be presented to those at the fashion show with the best presentation skills.
