Old Home Town – 25 years ago

Growing pains were plaguing Baldwin City and Tonganoxie, and both school districts were looking toward major building projects. Tonganoxie had scheduled an election Sept. 4 on a $3.37 million bond issue to build a new middle school and expand the district’s high school. Baldwin had no immediate plans for a bond vote but was due to use accumulated funds to financing a $500,000 addition to the elementary school.

Douglas County Commission Chairwoman Beverly Bradley said she had accepted a job as coordinator of the Kansas Association of Counties, based in Topeka. Earlier, Mrs. Bradley had announced her decision not to seek another four-year term on the commission.
