— Former congressman Jim Ryun, whose district included west Lawrence, has endorsed U.S. Rep. Todd Tiahrt’s bid for the U.S. Senate.

Tiahrt, R-Goddard, faces U.S. Rep. Jerry Moran, R-Hays, in the 2010 Republican Party primary for the seat being vacated by U.S. Sen. Sam Brownback, a Republican who is running for governor.

In a letter, Ryun praised Tiahrt as an effective congressman who stands strong against abortion and will be needed “to fight the liberal agenda being pushed” by President Barack Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Ryun added, “We have no use for another politician who fades into the background out of fear that he will offend someone and not win 80 percent of the vote in his next election against token opposition.”

Ryun represented the 2nd Congressional District for 10 years before being defeated by Democrat Nancy Boyda in 2006. Ryun sought the GOP nomination for the seat in 2008 but was defeated in the primary by Lynn Jenkins who then went on to defeat Boyda.

Surprise, surprise, surprise...Jim Ryun, a right-wing wacko, endorses Todd Tiahrt, another right-wing wacko. Surely they both will back yet another right-wing wacko, Sam Brownback. How sad for them.

Now there is endorsement for the failed economic policy of Wreckanomics and sending USA jobs abroad with Chinese made USA flags waving all the while.

Yes Tihart just cannot get enough of that big government medical insurance that we taxpayers provide YET Tihart will not support a plan for OUR tax dollars to cover all US who foot his medical insurance bill which is likely above $13,000 a year............That stinks!

Hey isn't Tihart always railing against big government? Yet he must love the salary package and those millions of corrupting special interest campaign dollars and the luxurious lifestyle.

Richard Heckler 5 years, 5 months ago

It’s time elected officials give voters what they want instead of elected officials giving WE voters what they want. THAT IS NOT TODD TIHART! With all of the nations problems why isn't he spending more time on the job. Forget any breaks the USA has big problems.

Veterans would be far better off with National Health Insurance. Instead vets are getting screwed and insurance companies are getting more corporate welfare: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/03/18/politics/washingtonpost/main4873963.shtml

WANT green collar jobs, alternative energy, jobs back to america and healthcare for all? Not with an arrogant government that says screw the voters in spite of how all of them have screwed up the economy. Instead the crooks keep getting more tax dollars from the government.....NOT WE THE TAXPAYER.

Why do americans fall over themselves for political media stars and fat cats? Have we not learned that these people NEVER make things better they just continue the corporate welfare and watch american jobs go abroad. It really stinks!

STOP sending the same faces back to Washington it is doing none of us any good.

The parties, news media and corporate america do NOT need to decide who OUR candidates should be for local, state or federal level representation. Why do we allow them to decide considering there are billions more of us?

The media has become a large part of the special interest takeover of our process as if they know what is best for all of us. Voters support this takeover by voting for those candidates who spend the most money and the question is why? The media loves those big dollars the incumbents get and they keep increasing their rates.....what a racket!

Campaigns go too long, spend way too much money and do not necessarily provide the best available. It is up to us to stop the nonsense at the voting booths. Replace 95% of all elected officials every 4 years for the house and every 6 years for the Senate.

Not voting sends the wrong message and changes nothing.

Lets’s demand a new system and vote in Fair Vote America : http://www.fairvote.org/irv/ Demand a change on the next ballot.

The big money ELECTED OFFICIALS ARE MORE BEHOLDEN than ever to corporate special interests due to the very long nature of campaigns. How do they have time to do the job they were elected to do? They say screw the voters AND officials live in glass houses.

We need public financing of campaigns. Citizens cannot afford special interest money campaigns for it is the citizens that get left out. Let citizens vote on this issue. http://www.publicampaign.org/

Who would be against Public Funding? The special interest money providers and their bought and paid for politicians!

Demand all presidential candidates participate in debates NOT only those selected by the media and two parties.

Well, this confirms Tiahrt is the wrong person for the job. I wonder if both he and Ryun share Brownbacks fears that Mermaids and Centaurs are going to join minorities in threatening the God given rights of old white guys.

My inlaws live in his district and cringe at his name. They can't hear his name without mumbling four letter words. This endorsement will help Jerry Moran a good deal. As a matter of fact, Jerry should thank Jim personaly.

Join the Nuts Parade: We Kansans ought to be "Religiously Right Proud"- - - - Ryun, Tiahrt, Brownback, Klein, Kobach. Then throw in Steve Abrams, Lynn Jenkins, and Fred Phelps.

Seems to me that the religious right are really not that religious and haven't been right. Oh wait, I guess considering the true meaning of religious they are right on track. My bad.

I, for one, appreciate the reminder. I'd been meaning to change declarations to vote for Moran in the primary. I'll get that done today. Thanks, Jim.

The Kansas version of Dumb and Dumber.

I think I will also start to pay more attention to Moran.

CLARKKENT 5 years, 5 months ago

now that the whole state gets a chance at tiahrt maybe, just maybe, we can vote mr. worthless out.

will now watch moran, not sure he is the answer, but who is?

blindrabbit 5 years, 5 months ago

Tiahrt realized he better make amends with the talking head OxyContin abuser.. I can't understand how otherwise seemingy intelligent people can listen to the drivel of Rush, Glen Beck and Michael Reagan and others; but everyone has some weaknesses.. I always thought Rush was putting on a show for the "ditto heads" and banking the dollars

Richard Heckler 5 years, 5 months ago

That part of Kansas need a moderate green thinker not more of the same old faces. Moran cannot be any gift.

Support new names/faces otherwise nothing changes. Moran has been around too long as well. Why support the special interest money people over and over and over?

Congressman Ryun could not have choosen a finer man. Congrats, Tiahrt.
