Storms topple semis, damage buildings

? Brief but powerful storms blasted parts of eastern Kansas on Wednesday afternoon with hail, heavy rain and high winds that tore roofs off buildings.

At least two tractor-trailers were blown onto their sides around 3 p.m. on Interstate 35 near Ottawa in Franklin County. The back of one semi landed on a passenger car, but neither driver was hurt.

High winds also pulled roofs from a motel and a small airplane hangar in Ottawa.

In nearby Anderson County, cars and trucks were blown off the road by winds estimated at 80 mph.
