Garage sale needs volunteers, goods

The United Way Community Garage Sale needs volunteers to help out on July 31 and Aug 1. Also needed are donations of gently used clothing, household goods, furniture and kitchen items to be sold. Donations can be dropped off at the Eagles Lodge, 1803 W. Sixth St., from 8 a.m. to noon on July 11 and 25 or 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on July 29 and 30.

Immediate needs

Operation Wildlife is in the midst of baby season! The organization is in need of individual volunteers or community groups to help out regularly with care of the animals and also assist in general cleaning and upkeep. Training will be provided. • Golf tournament helpers are needed. Have fun helping Lawrence Amateur Golf Association raise money for the “life support” services for kids and adults provided by Headquarters Counseling Center. The City Tournament is Saturday and July 12. The Scramble is Aug. 7. Golfer info is at www.lawrencegolf.org. Volunteer helpers are needed for each day. No golf experience is required. • Big Brothers Big Sisters needs adult volunteers who will help make a difference in the life of an at-risk child. A Big Brother or a Big Sister is matched with a child between the ages of 5 and 17. The volunteers agree to spend two or three hours a week providing caring adult friendship while participating in everyday activities. Orientation sessions for volunteers are held at 5:15 p.m. Tuesdays and noon Wednesdays at the Big Brothers Big Sisters office, 1525 W. Sixth St., Suite A.
