Wheel genius: Road work this week

Among major road projects scheduled in the area for the coming week:

Lawrence

• Ninth Street is open once again for traffic between Highland Drive and Emery Road, but drivers may face delays as crews replace curbs along Ninth, from Emery to Tennessee streets, and prepare to repave lanes along that stretch.

• Repaving crews will be expected to close a single lane normally used for southbound traffic along Naismith Drive, from 18th to 23rd streets.

• Drivers may encounter brief periods of slow traffic as construction continues for a new U.S. Highway 59 between Lawrence and Ottawa.

• Traffic continues to be limited along streets adjacent to the construction site for The Oread, near the northeastern end of Kansas University’s main campus.

Interstate 70

• Beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, traffic will be reduced to one lane for vehicles moving east on Interstate 70, from 110th to 94th streets in Wyandotte County. The closure will allow crews to replace pavement, a project slated to last into November for eastbound lanes and then switch over to westbound lanes in early 2010. The entire project is set for completion in late summer 2010.

Interstate 35

• Interstate 35 will be down to one lane for traffic heading south, from Quivira Road to 95th Street in Johnson County, between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday, for sign repairs.

• Interstate 35 will be down to one lane in each direction, from the Miami County line to 151st Street in Johnson County, between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. daily through mid-September, for a pavement-marking project.

Kansas Highway 7

• The right lane for traffic heading south on Kansas Highway 7, from 55th Street to Shawnee Mission Parkway in Johnson County, will be closed between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday for installation of wiring for traffic signals.

U.S. Highway 69

• The left lane for traffic heading south on U.S. Highway 69, from 91st to 103rd streets in Johnson County, will be closed between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. for removal of street lights.

U.S. Highway 73

• U.S. Highway 73 is reduced to one lane in each direction from Connie to Limit streets in Leavenworth County for repaving. The closures run from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily, and the project is expected to last into late July.
