Wheel Genius: Road work this week
Major roadways in the area aren’t seeing much major reconstruction these days, but here’s a rundown of work that could slow your travel during the coming week, as reported by government and agency officials:
Lawrence
l Work to build The Oread, a mixed-use and hotel project, is affecting traffic immediately north of the Kansas University campus, and the following restrictions are scheduled to continue into spring: 12th Street, closed to westbound traffic from west of Louisiana Street to Indiana Street; Indiana, closed to traffic from 12th to a half block north; and Oread Avenue, restricted to local traffic only from 12th to 13th streets.
U.S. Highway 24-40
l Interchange reconstruction work will continue to squeeze eastbound traffic into one lane from 142th to 130th streets along State Avenue — that’s U.S. Highway 24-40 — in Wyandotte County. The work is scheduled to be completed Monday. All other major work at the interchange with Kansas Highway 7 — a $35.7 million reconstruction project — was completed last week, opening up ramps that had been closed for months.
