Royals’ Buck, Peralta agree

? Catcher John Buck and right-hander Joel Peralta agreed Tuesday to one-year contracts with the Kansas City Royals and avoided salary arbitration.

The 28-year-old Buck hit .224 with 23 doubles, nine home runs and 48 RBIs in 109 games last year. A .234 hitter over five seasons with Kansas City, he has 62 career home runs.

The 32-year-old Peralta was 1-2 with a 5.98 earned-run average in 40 relief appearances last season and will make $640,000. In 194 career relief appearances, he is 4-8 with a 4.45 ERA.

Four Royals remain in salary arbitration.

Right-hander Zack Greinke wants $4.4 million but is being offered $3.4 million; fellow right-hander Brian Bannister wants $2.025 million but is being offered $1.45 million; outfielder Mark Teahen wants $3.85 million but is being offered $2.75 million; and first baseman Mike Jacobs wants $3.8 million but is being offered $2.75 million.
