A check of Lawrence’s 15 largest private employers indicated that “stable” was the best way to describe the local job picture. None had seen major job changes in late 1983 and none anticipated any sudden hiring programs.

Local leaders met with the Town Center Venture Corp. to discuss and describe plans calling for a retail development project at the north end of the downtown. Town Center had been chosen as the developer of record for the proposed work. Bob Gould, Duane Schwada and Dale Glenn spoke for the firm.
