Out of money

To the editor:

Here we are again, thumping into the SILT again. Oh, excuse me, I meant to write SLT. What kind of people do we have running our local governments? They seem to think we all have such full pockets we need to empty them on useless projects. I had life insurance and investments, and all of a sudden, I was $85,000 in the hole. There was a failure in the investment industry!

Did our people in government not hear of that? They want to continue to force a roadway through contested territory. Hey, we just don’t have the money for foolish things.

We need to annex 150 acres of land! People, we just do not have the money to put water out there and sewage facilities. Obama ran on the idea that Bush broke the country. How, then, does he have money to throw down in Lawrence?

I have an idea; how about if you people who are wanting to go on these expensive spending sprees dig into your pockets and pay for your pet projects with your private funds? You will have to pay for road maintenance, police patrols and school buses to run out and pick up children.

I’m sorry, but I lived through one depression forced on us by government failures, and now you want to walk the same path into financial oblivion. No, thank you. If the new federal government order opens the pig trough to dish out pork like you will be asking for, we will be walking the same old path of spend us into wealth. That idea has never and will never work.

Bud Nation,
Lawrence
