Victoria Howard and Keith Hayes each claimed two victories, and Jordan Scott automatically qualified for the NCAA Indoor in the pole vault, but Kansas University’s track and field team suffered a 195-166 setback Friday to Missouri.

It was the first “Border Dual” since 1976, and the first-ever dual meeting between the KU and MU women’s teams.

Scott had met the NCAA provisional qualifying standard in each of his first two meets with pole vaults of 17-feet, 3/4-inches and 17-81/2. Friday, he cleared 18-01/2, beating runner-up Brian Hancock of MU by 1-foot, 53/4-inches.

Howard won the 60-meter dash in 7.75 seconds and the 200 in 25.21.

“It was OK,” Howard said. “I feel like I have a lot of training and a lot more work to do, but as far as competing today, I think I competed hard. It was kind of disappointing as a team because, obviously, we lost. But, overall it was an OK day.”

Hayes won the 60-meter hurdles in 8.07 and the 200 in 22.79.

Eight other Jayhawks also came away with event titles against Missouri.

On the women’s side, Sha’Ray Butler won the 400 in 57.15, Amanda Miller won the 3,000 in 10:13.10, Elizabeth Beisner was victorious in the high jump at 5-41/4, Mackenzie Wills won pole vault at 11-113/4, and Kelsey Grimm won the long jump at 34-31/2.

For the men, Alex Carey won the 60 in 7.13, Jarrell Rollins won the 400 in 49.51, and Corey Fuller won the triple jump at 48-91/2.

Kansas will travel Jan. 31 to Lincoln, Neb.
