Eudora boys edge De Soto, 53-51

Kaws top Santa Fe Trail

Eudora 53, De Soto 51

De Soto — A late technical foul on De Soto and free throws by Justin Ballock and Evan Cleveland gave Eudora High’s boys basketball team a two-point lead with less than three seconds to play.

De Soto’s Mason Wedel’s three-quarter-court heave at the buzzer was perfectly online and grazed the bottom of the net, but it fell just short, and Eudora escaped with a victory Friday night.

Ballock led Eudora (7-1, 2-0) with 15 points, and Drew Noble added 13. Wedel, Jamel Townsend and Brandan Philbrook all scored 10 each to lead De Soto (5-3, 1-1).

Both teams will play next week in the Tonganoxie Invitational.

Perry-Lecompton 49, Santa Fe Trail 42

Perry — Andy Bowman had 18 points and Shane Gimzo 12 for Perry-Lecompton.

Perry (4-3) will face Anderson County on Tuesday in the Baldwin tournament.

K.C. Piper 51, Tonganoxie 42

Kansas City, Kan. — The Chieftains led the Pirates at halftime thanks to a 15-0 run to open the second quarter, but points weren’t as easy to come by in the second half.

Tonganoxie (4-3 overall, 3-1 Kaw Valley League) scored the first four points of the third quarter, when senior Austin Smith put back an offensive board and senior Jace Waters got a steal and a layup, but the Chieftains’ next bucket didn’t come until junior Keaton Schaffer scored on a lay-in to beat the third-quarter horn.

Schaffer led THS with 13 points and secured nine rebounds.

Waters knocked down two threes, scored 10 points and brought down six rebounds. Smith finished with eight points and led the team with 10 boards.

THS opens the Tonganoxie Invitational at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday against Silver Lake.
