The Downtown Lawrence Inc. Board met Jan. 7 for its annual retreat.

New initiatives and goals were discussed to create more community among downtown businesses. New officers elected were Dan Hughes, of Sunflower Outdoor and Bike, president; Chris Burger, of Stevens & Brand, treasurer; and Mary Cox, of Shark’s Surf Shop, secretary.

Committee chairs were also chosen, including Judy Billings to continue as Marketing and Promotions chairwoman, David Johanning to continue as Special Events chairman and Peter Zacharias, Beautification Committee chairman.

It was also decided the Expansion and Retention committee will be headed by Dan Hughes, with the entire board making up the committee.
