City offices, services to close on Monday

Government offices and public services in Lawrence and the surrounding area will be closed Monday in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

All Lawrence, Douglas County and state offices will be closed, as will federal offices in the general services administration and the federal courts. Offices will also be closed in most area towns.

Douglas County courts will be closed.

Most banks will be closed.

Lawrence Transit System buses will run. Parking in downtown Lawrence will be free.

City of Lawrence refuse and trash collection will not be affected.

City recreation centers will be open, and all recreational classes will continue as scheduled. All adult sports league games and special population classes will also run as scheduled.

The Indoor Aquatic Center will be open regular hours.

Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St., will be closed.

Eagle Bend Golf Course and Learning Center will be open, weather permitting.

The Lawrence Public Library will be open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Senior Services of Douglas County will be closed, including all dining centers, Senior Meals delivery and bus service.

The post office won’t make regular deliveries. UPS and FedEx will make deliveries.

The Journal-World will be open regular hours.

USA Today will be delivered.
