Douglas County commissioners on Wednesday night voted to spend $53,000 for orthophotography — or aerial photography — of about 344 square miles in the county.

Commissioners unanimously agreed to award the bid to Aero-Metric. The photographs are used by county departments to locate buildings and property.

The county also will receive a reimbursement for more than $13,000 from a federal grant. The county entered into the bids with surrounding counties and the city. The city will be responsible for the aerial photography of the urban growth area, and the city’s portion of the bid from Aero-Metric was $20,000.

In October, the county approved funding for aerial photography taken at an angle to give a three-dimensional view.
