The city employee in charge of pointing out how local government can be more efficient is seeking potential topics to study.

Michael Eglinski, the city’s performance auditor, wants to hear ideas from the public on what topics he should study in 2009.

Eglinski, who has been on the job since February, prepares reports for the City Commission on how city government is performing its job.

Near the beginning of each year, Eglinski — who previously was an auditor for the city of Kansas City, Mo. — presents a list of potential study topics to the City Commission.

Citizens can submit ideas to be studied via the city’s Web site. Eglinski is accepting suggestions through March 2.

In 2008, Eglinski completed audits on how the city rates the conditions of city streets, of how the various indicators the city uses to assess its financial health, and completed work on appropriate questions to ask on a city employee survey.
