Veritas sweeps Topeka Heritage

Neither Veritas Christian School basketball team had won a game in six starts.

Then Friday, both Eagles squads picked up victories — convincingly.

The girls routed Topeka Heritage, 51-21, then the boys hammered Heritage, 66-37.

“This was well needed,” Veritas girls coach Kevin Shelton said. “Our girls had been working really hard in practice to get that. I’m really proud of them. “

Melissa Hardee led the Eagles with 10 points. Kirsten Bennett added 9, Taelyr Shelton 8 and Becky Finger 7.

John Hicks led the boys with 16 points. Taylor Zook added 13 and Ethan Scott 12.

“This puts us in the right direction,” coach Doug Bennett said. “We finally put all aspects of our game together. Defense and rebounding have been consistent all season, but our shooting has been off and on. Tonight, we put it all together.”
