Three in custody following K-10 shooting

Three people were taken into custody early Saturday morning following a shooting incident on eastbound Kansas Highway 10, near Eudora.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Steve Lewis said two men and a woman were arrested near mile marker 7 about 2:30 Saturday morning after a motorist reported someone firing shots at his vehicle.

Police officers from Eudora intercepted the suspects’ vehicle and arrested 21-year-old Christopher Lee Forbush Willis of Olathe, 23-year-old Terrell Donnell Griffin of Gardner and 23-year-old Lindsey Leigh Abram of Gardner.

The suspects were booked into the Douglas County Jail Saturday morning on charges of aggravated assault and criminal discharge of a firearm. Griffin was also charged with obstruction of legal procedure, a felony, and felony criminal possession of a firearm.

All three were also charged with aggravated robbery stemming from an incident in Lawrence.

Lewis said the victim, who was the lone occupant of his car, was not injured. He said it appeared to be a random event.

“I don’t think it was a case of someone knowing someone and running them down,” Lewis said. He said he did not think the victim knew the suspects.

Lewis did not know why the shooting occurred, but said the suspects might have been going to the Kansas City area from Lawrence. He couldn’t confirm how many shots were fired, but said that several weapons were retrieved from the suspect vehicle.

Lawrence police Sgt. Ted Bordman said two men matching the description of the male suspects accosted two men on the 1500 block of West Ninth Street about 1:20 Saturday morning. The suspects threatened the men with handguns, and took a wallet.

Lewis said the suspects could be formally charged in court on Monday.
