Law enforcement report

• Lawrence police on Friday night were looking for two men suspected of an attempted armed robbery in east Lawrence.

Sgt. Mark Warren, a police spokesman, said about 8:43 p.m. two men demanded that a woman who was walking near 12th and Connecticut streets to give up her purse. When she refused, the woman said one man produced a silver handgun and again demanded the purse.

Then the woman took off running, and she told officers she believed she heard a shot. She never gave them her purse, and a few minutes later someone let her borrow a cell phone to call 911.

She said the two suspects ran south, and officers were in the area looking for them Friday night. The suspects are described as two white men, both from ages 18 to 23 and both 5 feet, 8 inches tall to 5 feet, 10 inches tall. One suspect, who had a medium to skinny build, wore a white stocking cap and a white puffy coat.

The second suspect wore a dark coat and dark-colored clothing. Warren said anyone who was in the area at the time and has information should call police at 832-7509.
