State leaders: Transportation projects may dry up without Obama stimulus

Any Kansas transportation plan will be difficult to enact unless there’s money from the federal economic stimulus plan offered by President-elect Barack Obama.
That’s the word from Sen. Dwayne Umbarger, chairman of a legislative transportation study committee. His committee was considering Thursday what proposal to recommend to legislators, who begin their session Monday.
The Thayer Republican said the state needs another 10-year plan. But he also said any major projects may have to be delayed until the last five years, when he hopes the economy will be in better shape.
Umbarger said without federal money, it would be very difficult to do any major projects for up to two years.

Hurray, whoever thought nothing good could come from a depression. Unfortunately I'm afraid Obama will fund the wrong ways to spend money since the status quo is firmly entrenched and we will get money to fund projects that were for the old world economy that we are leaving now.
