From the Lawrence Daily World for Jan. 7, 1909: “Kansas University has the best yell on earth. This has been said so often and has been proved every time that it has been pitted against the peace disturbers of other schools. The Rock Chalk Jayhawk yell of Kansas has been heard around the world and is found everywhere. In the far off Philippines, it has been used as a warrior’s cry in real battle. Prof. E.H.S. Bailey is regarded as the father of the yell and he should be proud of the way it has covered the earth … “

What? I have a hard time believing warriors have yelled, "Rock Chalk, Jayhawk, go KU!" I support our teams, but I don't see how this little article can really be considered news ... except for the part about who invented it. Come on now. Maybe there just wasn't that much to report on in 1909.
