4-H Skill-a-thon set for Jan. 19

There’s no school on Jan. 19 in recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. So the Douglas County 4-H program is offering hands-on activities for youths.

The third annual Project Skill-a-thon will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Dreher Family 4-H Building at Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds, 21st and Harper streets.

It is open to youths, ages 7 to 18.

Activities will include: making a wooden birdhouse, weaving, macrame and duct tape art. Kansas University engineering students also will give a presentation about technology and robotics.

The event is designed to help youths get to know one another and build life skills.

The cost is $8 before Friday and $10 after Friday.
