A former Douglas County Sheriff’s deputy has received six months’ probation and will be required to participate in anger-management counseling after his September arrest at his Eudora home.

District Judge Peggy Kittel in November sentenced Matthew Douglas, 35, after he pleaded no-contest to an amended charge of misdemeanor disorderly conduct. Prosecutors originally charged Douglas with misdemeanor domestic battery for making contact with a family member in a “rude, insulting or angry manner,” and his trial was originally scheduled for this week.

Kittel has ruled Douglas could spend 30 days in jail if he violates his probation terms.

Douglas was originally placed on administrative leave after the arrest, and sheriff’s officials said in October that Douglas was no longer employed there.

Franklin County Attorney Heather Jones was the special prosecutor.
